Functional, friendly, and futuristic furniture can be designed only with skilled and impeccable craftsmanship. This understanding has been prompting industry leaders to raise a cadre of professional carpenters who are equipped with modern techniques and material knowledge. And with the advent of the cutting-edge communication tools such as mobile apps, they are breaking down knowledge barriers and connecting with carpenters and contractors directly.
Interior infra giant Greenply Industries Ltd (GIL) stepped up this knowledge enhancing and sharing game recently by organising a mass download of its Carpenter Guru app for over 150 carpenters and contractors, at Asia’s largest furniture market Kirti Nagar in New Delhi. The app provides access to knowledge about furniture designs, materials and hardware and how to work with them. Also, it provides carpenters with a social medium to connect with their peers across the country nine languages, including Hindi, English, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. The app has recorded about a 1,000 downloads from Google Play Store, and GIL now plans to take the app awareness programme to Bhopal, Kolkata and other cities.
