Diplast to Venture into Skill Training

The company wants to skill the unskilled and help provide employment

 Mohali-based Diplast – manufacturer of rigid uPVC pipes and fittings, water storage tanks, dust bins, planters, PP-R pipes & fittings and other allied items – has ventured into skill development. “We have registered ourselves with Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), and will be offering skilling courses in plumbing, electrical, and basic computing,” shared Diplast managing director Ashok Kumar Gupta.

PMKVY is the flagship outcome-based skill training scheme of Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE). It is also India’s largest skill certification scheme with the objective to mobilise large numbers of youth to take up outcome-based skill training and become employable and earn their livelihood. The courses, Gupta said, will start as soon as the final go-ahead is given by MSDE.

“We have put in place the infrastructure required to start the training programme,” he informed, adding that his company has set up three class rooms and laboratories, and has invested close to Rs 30 lakh. The government on its part puts in a sum of Rs 14,000 per candidate. The minimum educational qualification to enroll oneself for the training programme is Xth pass. “The duration of the course will be two to three months,” he informed.

As for employment opportunities, Gupta shared that a pre-condition is that the institute providing skill training under PMKVY must ensure 75% placement. “Going forward, we will employ a few; we too need skilled employees. There is a lack of skilled workforce, so employment opportunities will not be an issue,” he added.

“Everyone wants a white collar job; we have to literally persuade many to opt for skill-based training courses,” shared Gupta. However, he is happy to note that perception on the ground is changing and sooner than later many students will opt for these courses. ')}
