The Furniture & Fittings Skill Council (FFSC) has expanded its industry-driven furniture skilling ecosystem with the launch of two new centres—the IFA x FFSC Skill Academy in Kochi and the Swati Interior x FFSC Centre of Excellence in Silvassa. These centres signal a significant shift toward employer-integrated training models for the Furniture, Interior & Allied sectors, where demand for shop-floor–ready talent continues to rise.
The furniture skilling ecosystem expansion emerged from months of structured dialogue
with manufacturers across Kerala and Silvassa. Industry leaders consistently highlighted
a shortage of technically trained workers who could transition smoothly into production roles. The feedback converged on a clear insight: conventional training systems were not keeping pace with the needs of modern furniture and interior manufacturing.

In Kochi, FFSC’s engagement with the IFA network helped crystallise the idea of a Skill
Academy designed around real manufacturing workflows. This led to the formal launch
of the IFA x FFSC Skill Academy on December 1, 2025. The Academy will offer immersive
programmes tailored to shop-floor roles, with the first batch beginning on December 15.
In Silvassa, FFSC collaborated with Swati Interior to establish a Centre of Excellence directly inside its production facility. The soft launch took place in the presence of the
company’s senior technical leaders, reinforcing the model of industry-owned skilling.
Seven candidates have already begun training, with more joining around December 15.
The centre aims to serve as a regional hub for experiential training on actual machinery
and production systems.

Both centres reflect an emerging model in India’s furniture skilling ecosystem: the
industry identifies the need, co-designs the solution, and participates actively in
delivery. This approach reduces skill mismatches, enhances employability, and
strengthens talent pipelines across the Furniture, Interior & Allied sectors.
These initiatives represent the next phase of skilling—contextual, industry-led, and
focused on outcomes for both employers and youth. FFSC expects the centres to
significantly improve the availability of trained talent across Kerala, Silvassa and
neighbouring regions.
