FFSC Skill Academies Power Furniture Sector Growth

FFSC Skill Academies power furniture sector growth with NCVET-certified training, 100% placement and Skill India Mission alignment.

Since the launch of its first Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad in 2023, the Furniture & Fittings Skill Council (FFSC) has steadily grown into a national force for skill development
in woodworking, interior and allied trades.

What began as a single initiative has now expanded into a robust network of seven Centers of Excellence and five Beginner Academies across India.

This remarkable expansion has been possible because the industry has stood firmly behind FFSC’s mission to create a future-ready workforce and to contribute meaningfully to the objectives of the Skill India Mission.

In just two years, FFSC Skill Academies have trained and successfully placed over 260 learners, with another 100 currently undergoing training. Students are gaining not only
technical expertise but also exposure to modern manufacturing practices and design techniques and innovation. The results are compelling: 100 percent placement with
salaries ranging from ₹15,000 to ₹32,000 per month.

The academies have become especially impactful for learners from rural and low-income backgrounds, including school dropouts who may not otherwise access structured training. They have also created opportunities for more than 60 women, strengthening diversity in a traditionally male-dominated trade.

At the core of this initiative is a learner journey designed to meet real-world industry expectations:

#1. Engagement: Outreach through ITIs, colleges and Skill Ambassadors, with industry
partners contributing to awareness.

#2. Aptitude Testing: Assessments of skill and passion, supported by industry expertise.

#3. Orientation: Learning kits and mentorship, often sponsored by industry.

#4. Hands-on Training: Short-term, three-month training programs that prepare learners
for the roles of Multipurpose Assistant (Furniture Production & Installation) and
Multipurpose Draughtsperson (Design & Build). Training combines real industry projects with advanced machinery provided by partners.

#5. Industry Connect: Guest lectures, site visits and exposure to workplaces.

#6. Assessment: NSQF-aligned evaluations, with industry professionals as assessors.

#7. Certification & Placement: Learners graduate with NCVET certification and are
recruited directly by employers.

The journey of FFSC Skill Academies would not have been possible without industry support. Some of the prominent partners that have collaborated with FFSC in setting up and running these academies include Hettich, Decora, Caple, I.EVO., BSDU, BVN Modular, Utturkars, Plank Interiors, DMS, Swati Interiors, Pidilite and Woodtech. Their contributions—ranging from infra, equipment, knowledge modules and trainers to mentorship and recruitment—have helped create state-of-the-art training environments across the country.

These partnerships not only elevate the quality of training but also ensure that learners are trained on the very tools and systems they will encounter in the workplace. By embedding industry into every stage of the learner’s journey, FFSC has built a model where training seamlessly translates into employability.

The academies are more than training centres; they are a pipeline of manpower that supports growth in the interiors and furniture ecosystem. The model is proof that when industry, training institutions, and learners collaborate, the results are transformative.

“The Skill Academies are proof of what collective will can achieve. This is the Power of Collaboration. Every collaboration—whether in training, mentorship, or recruitment—helps create a stronger talent base for the industry. I urge employers to give preference to trained and certified apprentices, and in doing so, set a new benchmark for professionalism in our sector,” says Rahul Mehta, CEO, FFSC.

By aligning with the Skill India Mission, FFSC Skill Academies are not only powering the
growth of the furniture and interior ecosystem but also contributing to India’s broader
vision of building a globally competitive, future-ready workforce.

The message is clear: more academies mean more talent, and more talent means more growth for India’s furniture and interior ecosystem.
