The FFSC’s Cabinet Vision-trained batch of students has been 100% placed, making this a major milestone for the furniture and interior sector. The Furniture & Fittings Skill Council (FFSC) has achieved this milestone by delivering 100% placement for the first batch of students trained under its interior design training in Cabinet Vision software at Government ITI Mala, Thrissur. The initiative has emerged as a model for how sector skill councils, academia, and industry can collaborate to bridge skill gaps in the furniture and interior ecosystem.
Rapid Upskilling to Bridge the Employability Gap
The pilot initiative began when Government ITI Mala approached FFSC seeking placement
assistance for its final-year students. FFSC’s consultations with furniture and interior design
companies revealed a critical mismatch: while students possessed strong foundational
knowledge, employers were seeking professionals conversant with Cabinet Vision, the
globally used design-to-manufacture software for furniture and cabinetry.
To address this gap quickly—without delaying student placements—FFSC curated a 15-day,
industry-aligned upskilling program focused on Cabinet Vision workflows, design integration, and production drawings. FFSC’s Cabinet Vision short-term course was designed to ensure immediate employability, with inputs from the Council’s industry
partners and technical experts.
100% Placement Across South India
The results were emphatic. All 17 trained candidates from the first batch received placement offers from companies across Kerala, Chennai, and Hyderabad, validating the
effectiveness of FFSC’s Cabinet Vision rapid-training model. Employers reported that the
recruits were job-ready from day one, able to integrate seamlessly into CAD-CAM-driven
furniture design and manufacturing environments.
“This outcome proves that when training aligns with industry needs, employability is
instantaneous,” said a senior FFSC spokesperson. “The FFSC’s Cabinet Vision upskilling
program has created a new benchmark for short-cycle skilling in India’s furniture and
fittings sector.”
A Model for Industry–Academia Collaboration
The Thrissur placement drive exemplifies how collaboration between academia, FFSC, and
industry can deliver tangible results. The approach combined three critical inputs:
1. Academic Initiative: ITI Mala identified the need for placements and skill enhancement.
2. FFSC Intervention: The Council designed a focused, software-specific upskilling module.
3. Industry Participation: Recruiters and technical experts engaged actively in the training and hiring process.
This synergy ensured that the students’ learning outcomes were directly mapped to real job roles—an approach that can be replicated across India’s vocational ecosystem.
Industry Partners Step Forward
The placement drive drew participation from leading furniture manufacturers, interior
design firms, and modular kitchen specialists across southern India. FFSC’s Skill Ambassador Hexagon India, along with several regional industry leaders, provided technical
mentorship and evaluation support. Their involvement ensured that the training content
remained closely tied to the needs of employers using digital design and production
systems.
Expanding the Model: Next Batch Announced
Following the success of the Kerala pilot, FFSC has announced admissions for the next
cohort under the IFA × FFSC Skill Academy, starting 1 December 2025. The program will
again focus on practical, software-driven skill development for aspiring interior designers
and design technicians, combining classroom instruction with placement support.
Strengthening the Furniture & Interior Talent Pipeline
Through such targeted interventions, FFSC continues to strengthen India’s furniture and
interior design talent pipeline. The Council works with government institutions, training
partners, and industry associations to deliver standardised, outcome-based training
modules that directly lead to employment.
“Short-duration programs like this not only equip youth with in-demand digital skills but
also reassure employers that skilling frameworks can deliver job-ready professionals,” said
an industry expert associated with the initiative.
As India’s furniture and cabinetry manufacturing ecosystem embraces Industry 4.0 tools
and automation, the need for software-proficient designers and technicians is rising rapidly.
FFSC’s Thrissur placement success underscores how focused skilling interventions can meet
this demand head-on.
