Flexibility and efficiency in furniture are two ends of the production spectrum. However, in the kitchen business, both must be achieved in adequate measure to satisfy and retain the customer.
Manufacturing for flexibility and efficiency seems to be a utopian idea, and manufacturers of modular kitchens often fall between two stools in their quest for both. Their key challenge is maintaining a nuanced balance so that costs remain under control while customers’ unique expectations are fulfilled.
In an animated discussion during India Kitchen Congress 2023, industry leaders and production experts brought to the fore decades of collective wisdom as they debated this issue threadbare.
Jagdish Kularia, director of Narsi Group; Swastik Ranka, managing director of Paracasa Interio; Klaus Kellner, advisor at Kalpakaaru Projects; and Zurvan Marolia, senior VP of Godrej Interio, spoke about best practices in furniture manufacturing, challenges that kitchen manufacturers face, and the probable solutions.
The discussion was moderated by technology veteran Venkataramana Gorti, managing director of HOMAG India.
