Plumbing Council to Train Sales & Mktg Execs, Factory Workers

Indian Plumbing Skills Council (IPSC), the sector skill council partner of National Skill Development Corporation of India (NSDC), is building a skill development ecosystem in the plumbing sector. It is taking forward the initiative by going beyond skill development programmes for plumbers, and training sales & marketing executives as well as factory workers.

“We want to participate in building a new India that requires an evolved ecosystem of plumbing. While we continue to skill and certify plumbers, we are sharpening our focus on training the sales & marketing people and factory workers. This is required to create an entire value chain that can respond to the challenges of modern plumbing,” says Vinay Gupta, vice chairman, IPSC.

The modern bathroom, he elaborates, demands water-efficient technologies that work diligently for saving water and keeping the area clean and hygienic. This space is increasingly being developed for rejuvenation and indulgence. Consumers are investing more in sanitaryware, bath fittings, accessories and other plumbing equipment for an enhanced bathing experience. In such a scenario, plumbing has emerged as a domain that culminates arts and science. We need well-informed and skilled people in every plumbing sphere, be it at the shop floor, showroom and experience centre, and the point of installation,” Gupta adds.

This reconfigured approach follows IPSC’s goal, of certifying 12 lakh plumbers by 2022. It has certified 70,000 since the launch of Skill India mission in July 2015. The Council aims to increase its certification of plumbers by 30-40% every year.
