Berger Paints’ Construction Chemicals Business Crosses ₹1,500 CroreMilestone

Move reflects the company’s growing presence beyond decorative paints as demand for waterproofing and repair solutions accelerates

Berger Paints construction chemicals business has crossed the ₹1,500 crore revenue milestone, marking a significant expansion beyond the company’s traditional paints portfolio and underscoring the growing importance of waterproofing, repair and allied building protection solutions in India.

Built over the past seven to eight years, the Berger Paints construction chemicals business today spans waterproofing, repair, tiling and related construction applications. The company said the segment has recorded a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 25% during the last three years, substantially ahead of the broader waterproofing market, which is estimated to be growing at around 8–10% annually.

The milestone also reflects a broader shift across India’s building materials industry, where paint manufacturers are increasingly expanding beyond decorative paints into waterproofing, repair and construction chemicals. Driven by infrastructure development, housing renovation and increasing awareness of building protection, these segments are emerging as important growth opportunities.

The move mirrors a wider trend in the building products industry, with companies expanding beyond their traditional business models to strengthen capabilities and capture greater value across the construction ecosystem. Fenesta’s recent investment in an aluminium extrusion plant is another example of this strategic shift, albeit through vertical integration rather than category expansion.

Berger Paints Construction Chemicals Grow Faster Than the Market

According to a June 2026 Mordor Intelligence report cited by Berger, the Indian construction chemicals market is estimated at US$2.53 billion in 2026 and is projected to reach US$4.47 billion by 2031, growing at a CAGR of 12.06%.

For established paint companies with extensive dealer and contractor networks, construction chemicals offer an opportunity to deepen customer engagement beyond decorative coatings while participating in one of the fastest-growing segments of the building products market.

Commenting on the achievement, Abhijit Roy, Managing Director & CEO, Berger Paints India, said the company sees construction chemicals as a natural extension of its role in protecting buildings.

“We see construction chemicals as a natural extension of our role in building and protecting the spaces that matter to consumers. Over the years, we have invested in understanding evolving construction needs, developing differentiated products and building greater awareness around the category. As the market continues to formalise and adoption deepens, our focus will be on scaling the business responsibly, strengthening our presence across geographies and creating solutions that address the needs of both construction professionals and consumers.”

The Berger Paints construction chemicals portfolio is anchored by its Home Shield range of waterproofing solutions. The company has expanded the portfolio with products such as Home Shield Waterproof Putty, which combines wall finishing with waterproofing functionality, and Roof Cool and Seal, a roof coating designed to provide both waterproofing and a cooling effect through high solar reflectance.

Beyond waterproofing, Berger has also strengthened its presence in tiling solutions with tile adhesives, tile grouts and related products, broadening its participation across the construction chemicals value chain.

The business has established a pan-India presence, with particularly strong traction in West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. Going forward, Berger plans to deepen its presence in existing markets while expanding into newer geographies through continued product development across the construction chemicals portfolio.

For Berger Paints, the ₹1,500 crore milestone represents more than a revenue benchmark. It signals the company’s ambition to build a stronger position across the broader building protection ecosystem, where demand is increasingly being shaped not only by new construction but also by renovation, maintenance and longer building lifecycles.

Looking ahead, Berger Paints is focusing on expanding its construction chemicals business through deeper market penetration, wider geographic reach and continued product development across waterproofing, repair and tiling solutions.

The milestone also follows Berger Paints’ recent ‘Rang Bana Rahe’ brand campaign, which repositioned the company around the broader idea of protecting colour and resilience. Together, the two initiatives reflect Berger’s efforts to strengthen both its brand proposition and its presence across the wider building protection ecosystem.
