Showing their commitment to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, over 200 CREDAI member developers have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CREDAI Clean City Movement Ltd (CCCM). The MoUs were signed at the New India Summit organised by CREDAI, in the presence of DevendraFadnavis, chief minister of Maharashtra.
“CREDAI, through its Clean City Movement, has been aligning its efforts to facilitate the government’s Swachh Bharat Mission. We are elated that over 200 developers have signed the MoU and will be adopting the mechanism for solid waste management. We hope to get many more on board in the near future to take this initiative to even greater heights,” said CREDAI president Jaxay Shah. This initiative was started with the objective to help builders and residents implement eco-friendly self-reliant rejection management at source, and to further ensure that properties developed by CREDAI members implement eco-friendly scientific waste management, explained Shah.
Sharing his thoughts, CREDAI chairman GetamberAnand said, “We are very proud to announce the association of 200 more developers with our Clean City Movement initiative. We laud their efforts and commitment towards this cause. We hope to expand our initiative to at least 30 cities in the next two years, with an aim of increasing the outreach of the program to all parts of the country in the future.”
As for the working of the initiative, CCCM first conducts waste audit for all projects where the model is to be implemented, and suggests appropriate solutions to the developer. This leads to installation of on-ground solutions in phases. The waste management system is based on aerobic processing of waste, a technology that uses bio-digester bins or bio-digester pots to convert municipal solid waste to natural fertiliser; the whole process is completed at the community’s basement area.
Under this MoU, member developers will implement solid waste management in-situ model at their present and future projects. The total number of homes to be covered under the MoUs signed is in excess of two lakh units. CCCM plans to cover one million households during 2017-19. ')}
