Cyncly has acquired German software company imos AG, adding CAD/CAM, integration and automation capabilities to its software portfolio for kitchen, bathroom and furniture manufacturing.
The Cyncly imos acquisition, announced on August 21, is aimed at connecting design, engineering and production more closely within Cyncly’s manufacturing platform. Financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
Headquartered in Herford, Germany, imos develops software for the furniture and woodworking industry, with a particular focus on converting furniture designs into engineering and production data. The company serves more than 5,000 manufacturers across 100 countries, ranging from craft businesses to large industrial producers.
Its software converts design intent into validated, parametric constructions and generates production-ready information, including optimised nesting and CNC-ready outputs. For Cyncly, these capabilities fill what the company describes as the ‘engineering middle’ between furniture design and machine production.
“Every furniture manufacturer is trying to connect design, engineering and production into one smooth process,” said Anand Krishnan, CEO of Cyncly. He said the addition of imos was a major step towards the company’s ambition of providing manufacturers with a single platform connecting these functions.
The two companies are not new to each other. Cyncly said it has worked with imos for several years and their technologies already have existing integrations.
Andrea Gnoato, General Manager of Cyncly’s Kitchen, Bathroom and Furniture Manufacturing solutions, said the Cyncly imos acquisition would allow the companies to build on that integration. “The gap between a finished design and a machine-ready file is where manufacturers lose the most time and accuracy, and that is exactly the gap imos closes,” he said.
According to Gnoato, bringing the two businesses together should reduce the number of manual steps required between design and the shopfloor while creating a more connected workflow for customers.
From Design Data to Machine Data
The acquisition expands Cyncly’s presence further into the production side of furniture manufacturing.
Cyncly’s furniture manufacturing portfolio includes 3CAD for design and configuration, Insight for enterprise production and workflow management, Mozaik for woodworking and cabinet shops, and imos for CAD/CAM, engineering and automation.
The company says the combined software capabilities can use production data to improve material utilisation, identify errors before they reach machines and enable more orders to move through production with fewer manual interventions. Its stated objective is to develop
a single AI-enabled manufacturing platform extending from initial design through to final production.
The Cyncly imos acquisition comes as digital integration becomes an increasingly important part of automated furniture production. CNC machinery can automate operations such as cutting and drilling, but these processes depend on accurate engineering and machine-ready
information being generated from the original furniture design.
The addition of imos fills out Cyncly’s manufacturing software stack at the CAD/CAM and engineering stage, between furniture design and production, particularly for panel-based custom and semi-custom furniture manufacturing. Cyncly has more than 2,300 employees and over 70,000 customers worldwide. Its software serves the kitchen, bathroom, furniture, flooring, windows, doors and glass industries.
imos will continue to serve customers through its existing teams and support structure following the acquisition. Cyncly said imos will gain access to its R&D resources and AI capabilities, while development of the imos product portfolio will continue.

For furniture manufacturers, the Cyncly imos acquisition brings into sharper focus an issue accompanying greater factory automation: connecting the software used to design and configure furniture with the engineering data required to manufacture it. Cyncly’s acquisition of imos is a move to bring those stages within a more closely connected software environment.
