BIS Standards for After-Sales Services Soon

Companies offering after-sales services in the country may soon have to comply with the Bureau of Indian Standards’ (BIS) quality standards as the national standard body forms a panel to frame regulations for the purpose. BIS, which develops quality and safety norms for goods sold in India, has set up a Services Sector Divisional Council panel, for framing regulations with respect to after-sales services, reports ET quoting a senior official.

“The committee will take care of the initial stages of policy-making in India, where consumers are going to benefit significantly,” ET quoted member secretary of the council Vijay Kumar Singh as saying. The body functions under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. The regulations will encompass all kinds of services. This includes after-sales support offered by manufacturers of white goods, e-commerce enterprises, taxi aggregators, food and grocery delivery firms, and payments companies, among others.
