Geberit Announces Installation of One Million Concealed Cisterns in India

Geberit claims that, over the last seven years, it has educated trade partners as well as customers about how concealed cisterns work

Bengaluru-based sanitary technology specialist Geberit has announced that it has successfully installed one million concealed cisterns across residential and commercial properties in India. The company is a fully owned subsidiary of Geberit Group based in Europe.

ā€œConcealed cisterns were a new concept to India when we entered the market,ā€ shared Abubaker Koya, managing director of Geberit India, on the sidelines of the event to announce the milestone achieved by the company. He added that from addressing the fear of how hidden cisterns would work, to practising the concept of water and space saving benefits, Geberitā€™s team had to educate both trade partners and end-customers. ā€œWe have come a long way since, and are today proudly celebrating the one millionth installation of the same system across industries from IT parks, malls to manufacturing plants, and of course high-end residential buildings. We enjoy the patronage of leading Indian corporates and developers across the country,ā€ he added.

Geberit started operations in India in 2010 and has established a production facility for concealed cisterns at Pune. ā€œThe company has since followed constraint-based product innovation – best of modern technology, design and Indiaā€™s mind-set in designing products exclusively for Indian customers,ā€ shared Koya. He said that the company is committed to meet existing and prospective customersā€™ emerging needs in the field of sanitary and piping technologies.

ā€œGeberitā€™s product range is designed for use in new buildings as well as in renovation and modernisation projects.ā€Koya informed that Geberit has built a network of 1,500 dealers and distributors. ā€œWhile Geberit forayed into India with concealed cisterns and piping (behind the wall) products, it has now moved on to ā€˜in front of the wallā€™ products viz Mera Shower Toilets, urinals, sensor taps, etc.ā€

Commenting on the state of the industry, he said, ā€œThe size of the sanitaryware industry in India is about Rs 15,000 crore, and the space Geberit operates in is about half of it, very specifically at the premium-end of the segment.ā€ He highlighted that the industry has kept pace with the realty industryā€™s growth in India, at about 10-15% per annum. ā€œHowever, the premium segment within this, where companies like Geberit are major players, has grown at a higher rate of more than 20% per annum,ā€ he added. ā€œWithin the toilets segment, one is seeing a major shift towards wall-hung toilets. Due to this change, the new flushing systems (concealed cisterns) market is evolving in a big way and Geberit is a major player in that area today,ā€ Koya said.

Talking about the companyā€™s community outreach initiatives, Koya informed that Geberit has helped establish India’s first plumbing lab in Pune, and works with institutions such as Indian Plumbing Association to create customised learning and knowledge sharing programmes.
