LIXIL has Set up its Cistern Assembly Facility in India

Water and housing products major LIXIL has set up its cistern assembly facility in Mumbai, India. Outside Japan, this is LIXIL Corporation’s second cistern assembly plant globally after Poland and the first in the Asia Pacific region.

LIXIL markets its bathroom products under the GROHE and American Standard brands, and aluminium window systems under the TOSTEM brand.

Spread across 23,500 sft, the Mumbai facility is expected to serve as a central production base, bolstering LIXIL’s capacity to cater to increased demand in India as well as across other markets in the region.

The facility was inaugurated by LIXIL’s senior leadership including Bobby Joseph, Leader, LIXIL Water Technologies-India & Subcon; and Jorg Vogeley, Leader, Plant Porta Westfalica, Manufacturing Fittings, LIXIL International.

Joseph says that LIXIL aims to be a leader in flushing systems, a category that is growing rapidly in India. “We have a clear vision and strategy for the Indian market, and we will continue to deliver on that. We anticipate significant growth in the market, and with this investment, we aim to be the category leader.”

According to Joseph, the state-of-the-art facility will help localise three of the top-selling GROHE flushing cisterns. “The facility will have a production capacity of 1,50,000 units in its first year and is designed to scale up to 3,00,000 units in the second year of operation. It has been strategically located in the vicinity of LIXIL’s Mumbai Distribution Centre, to optimise the company’s logistics and ensure uninterrupted service.”

Asserting that investment in the facility is a major milestone in the company’s journey, he said, “This will contribute to replicating LIXIL’s global leadership position and transform the industry in India by enabling exports across APAC.”

Commenting on the importance of Indian operations in the company’s global growth, LIXIL International’s Singapore-based Leader Bijoy Mohan says, “Asia continues to be a key growth driver for LIXIL globally and India is central to that endeavour. Bringing APAC’s first cistern assembly facility to the country is a testimony of our strong commitment to the dynamic Indian market and the ‘make in India’ initiative. With this new facility, we aim to make India pivotal to exports across emerging markets in APAC.”

Mohan confirms that this facility would lead the way in bringing the best innovations and world-class manufacturing practices to India.

In India, LIXIL has two manufacturing facilities, at Vijayawada (American Standard and GROHE) and Manesar (TOSTEM).
