Winners of Kohler Bold Design Awards Announced

Kitchen and bathroom fittings specialist Kohler has announced the recipients of Kohler Bold Design Awards 2016 for excellence in architecture and interior design. Hosted at The Imperial, New Delhi, the event was attended by David Kohler, president & CEO, Kohler Co, and Salil Sadanandan, president, India, South Asia and EMEA, Kohler Co.

This year marked the beginning of Kohlerā€™s biennial awards to celebrate the best Indian architects and designers who aimed to redefine design and set a new benchmark in the industry. With thousands of entries, Kohler Bold Design Awards have emerged as an important recognition of creativity, innovation, originality and inspiring practices in the field of Indian architecture, interiors and design.

Entries to the awards were peer reviewed and anonymously judged by an expert jury panel of established professionals.Ā  The jury panel included some renowned personalities in the field of architecture – Lyndon Neri & Rossana Hu, founders of Neri & Hu Architecture; Manit Rastogi and Sonali Rastogi, founder partners of Morphogenesis; Rahul Kadri, principal architect & partner at I M Kadri Architects; Sanjay Mohe, founder of Mindspace; Sanjay Puri, principal architect at Sanjay Puri Architects; Sarbjit Singh, principal architect of Fabinterior; Sonali Bhagwati, co-founder of Spazzio Design; and India Mahdavi, renowned interior designer from Paris.

Arpan Shah ā€“ Modo Designs was awarded under the category Bold Luxury; Hiren Patel ā€“ Hiren Patel Architects, for Community Harmony; Brinda Somaya ā€“ Somaya & Kalpana Consultants, for the Big Idea; Tushar Vasudevan ā€“ Ochre, for commercial; while Akshay Heranjal ā€“ the Purple Ink Studio was awarded under theĀ  hospitality category. Under the category of public institution the award was given to Ravindra Kumar ā€“ Pragrup Architecture|Urbanism, and that under residential was given to Pinkish Shah of S+PS Architects.

The John Michael Kohler Lifetime Achievement award applauds a noteworthy personality from the architecture and design community. Having been named after Kohlerā€™s visionary founder, John Michael Kohler, it felicitates someone who is a legend in the field and is known for tireless, genius and noteworthy contributions to the field of architecture and design in India. This year it was awarded to Christopher Charles Benninger.

Speaking on the occasion, David Kohler said, ā€œWe have always been inspired by the incredible and creative talent in India, especially amongst the design and architectural community. The Kohler Bold Design Awards aim to award and celebrate the best of this talent.ā€

The winners received a very special trophy ā€“ The Golden Pencil ā€“ designed by Alex Davis, a well-known artist and designer whose work epitomises ā€˜India Modernā€™. The winners also received an exclusive opportunity to display their winning prototypes/models/pieces at India Design ID 2017 in New Delhi ')}
