Danish ceramic designer Cecilie Manz reveals her passion for the material as well as her refined sense for touch and nuances in Duravit’s recently launched Luv bathroom range
Cecilie Manz spent much of her childhood in the workshop of her parents Bodil and Richard, the two well-known Danish ceramic artists. Now, her collaboration with Duravit has offered the designer an opportunity to work with ceramics herself, while creating an entire bathroom range.
“My collaboration with Duravit has taken me into entirely new territory in every respect. Not only was this an opportunity to work with a new material, but it is also the first time that I’ve ever focused on the bathroom in my work,” says Manz.
The objectively beautiful forms of Nordic design are more than familiar to the native-born Dane. The 44-year-old can already look back on a long and successful creative career. It began with her education at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts – The School of Design, Danmark Designskole, where she specialised in furniture and everyday objects. A semester abroad at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki increased her awareness of the characteristics of Scandinavian design. In 1998, just a year after graduating from the Danish School of Design, she founded her own company, which has been the focus of her work ever since. She has been very successful in designing lamps, furniture and accessories for the home, working with well-known manufacturers such as Bang & Olufsen subbrand B&O Play,
Fritz Hansen, Fredericia Furniture, Nils Holger Moormann, Lightyears Georg Jensen Damask, Iittala and Muuto.
Manz’s products are exhibited all over the world, and her creations can be found in the permanent collections of institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Designmuseum Danmark. She has received several major awards for her conceptual design. Recently her interpretations of Nordic purism and emotional elegance were revealed in the Luv bathroom range which Duravit launched at ISH 2017. ')}
