The Furniture and Fittings Skill Council has announced the FFSC Industry Transformation Conclave 2026–27, a four-city initiative focused on strengthening workforce capability, productivity and industry participation in skilling across India’s furniture and interiors sector.
The initiative will begin with the West Region Conclave in Mumbai on September 17, 2026, followed by regional conclaves in Kolkata on November 19, Chennai on December 17, and Delhi on March 2, 2027.
Under the broad theme ‘From Skill to Scale’, the initiative seeks to connect the workforce challenges faced by furniture and interiors businesses with practical interventions around training, apprenticeships, productivity and technology adoption.
Connecting Skills with Manufacturing Productivity
The programme reflects FFSC’s effort to take the skilling conversation closer to enterprises and regional manufacturing clusters.
Furniture manufacturers are increasingly investing in machinery, automation and capacity. However, the productivity of these investments is closely linked to the availability of people with the right skills to operate machines, follow processes and adapt to changing production technologies.
The conclaves will therefore address workforce issues alongside subjects such as automation, CNC technology, lean manufacturing, quality and sustainability. Participants will also receive guidance on apprenticeships, job roles, upskilling, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Skill Academies.
For MSME furniture manufacturers in particular, this creates an opportunity to examine workforce development as part of their larger productivity and growth strategy rather than treating recruitment and training as standalone activities.
Regional Clusters and the FFSC Industry Transformation Conclave
The four-city format gives the initiative a strong regional orientation. Workforce requirements can vary considerably between manufacturing clusters, depending on the nature of enterprises, technologies being adopted and availability of trained manpower. Each conclave is intended to identify these regional requirements and connect manufacturers with relevant skilling, policy, technology and academic stakeholders.
An important component will be an Action Lab designed to capture hiring demand, hard-to-fill job roles and potential areas for collaboration. These inputs can help create a clearer picture of the workforce requirements emerging from different regions.
This is particularly relevant for smaller manufacturers that may not have dedicated HR or learning and development teams. Identifying common requirements at a cluster level could enable shared approaches to training, apprenticeships and workforce development.
From Basic Training to Workforce Systems
The initiative also broadens the discussion from simply training individuals to examining how companies can create an environment in which skilled workers can contribute effectively.
For manufacturers, this could mean defining job roles more clearly, identifying skill gaps, using apprenticeships more systematically, upskilling existing workers and preparing teams before introducing new technologies.
Such interventions become increasingly important as furniture manufacturing moves from largely manual processes towards a mix of manual, semi-automated and automated production.
The larger proposition behind From Skill to Scale is therefore straightforward: creating more trained workers alone will not address the sector’s manpower challenge. Manufacturers also need to become more systematic about how they recruit, deploy, train and retain people.
Through the four regional conclaves, FFSC is seeking to bring these conversations closer to manufacturers and encourage greater industry participation in building the skilled workforce required for the sector’s next phase of growth.
